The differences and common applications of Q235A, Q235B, Q235C, and Q235D materials

2025-04-01 09:44

In Q235B, the B represents the quality grade of the Q235 material with that strength level. The standard provides four grades for Q235 strength: A, B, C, and D; Q235B is one of them. Their main differences lie in low-temperature impact performance, although other aspects also vary. Details are summarized below:Different impact test temperature requirements

  • Q235A: No impact test required.
  • Q235B: Conduct 20℃ room temperature impact test.
  • Q235C: Conduct 0℃ impact test.
  • Q235D: Conduct -20℃ impact test
  •

Differences in chemical composition

    • Q235A: Contains C 0.14-0.22%, Mn 0.30-0.65%, Si≤0.30%, S≤0.050, P≤0.045.
    • Q235B: Contains C 0.12-0.20%, Mn 0.30-0.70%, Si≤0.30%, S≤0.045, P≤0.045.
    • Q235C: Contains C≤0.18%, Mn 0.35-0.80%, Si≤0.30%, S≤0.040, P≤0.040.
    • Q235D: Contains C≤0.17%, Mn 0.35-0.80%, Si≤0.30%, S≤0.035, P≤0.035.
      Different deoxidation methods
  • Q235A: Can use F (boiling steel), Z (killed steel)
  • Q235B: Can use F (boiling steel),Z (killed steel).
  • Q235C: Uses Z (killed steel).
  • Q235D: Uses TZ (special killed steel).

Main Applications

  • Q235A
    • Construction Field: Used for non-critical support components in building structures, such as steel beams and columns in temporary buildings.
    • Mechanical Manufacturing: Used to make small brackets, housings, and other parts that are not under significant stress, also used in the manufacture of daily necessities such as simple metal furniture frames.
  • Q235B
    • Construction Industry: Often used in the construction of factory buildings, bridges, and other building structures with high safety and reliability requirements.
    • Mechanical Manufacturing: Manufacturing mechanical parts that withstand certain loads and impacts, such as ordinary drive shafts and gears.
    • Chemical Equipment: Used to make some storage containers, etc.
  • Q235C
    • Buildings in northern cold regions: For example, large venues and industrial plants in low-temperature environments, ensuring structural stability at low temperatures.
    • Mechanical equipment in low-temperature environments: Such as shelves and conveying equipment in low-temperature cold storage, which can maintain good mechanical properties in low-temperature environments.
  • Q235D
    • Marine Engineering: Structural components of offshore oil platforms, etc., can withstand seawater corrosion and low temperatures.
    • Special machinery in high-altitude cold regions: Such as engineering machinery and drilling equipment in high-altitude cold regions, which can operate normally at very low temperatures.
    • Other high-demand fields: Used to manufacture important structures and equipment with extremely high quality and safety requirements, such as polar research equipment and transmission towers in high-altitude areas.
